Trees do more than beautify our neighbourhoods – they help clean our air, store carbon, manage rainwater, and cool our city. With nearly 40% of Ottawa’s urban land privately owned, residents play a key role in growing our tree canopy.
The City of Ottawa’s Plant Your Place! program is returning in 2026, offering free trees to residents through two program streams.
1. Full-Service Tree Planting (Registration opens on April 8, 2026)
- Available to Carlington residents in the designated Priority Area only: See MAP HERE or at the bottom of this post.
- Register to confirm eligibility, book a site visit, meet a forestry expert.
- Get your tree professionally planted.
2. City-Wide Tree Distribution (plant your tree yourself): Open to Ottawa residents city-wide
- Register in the program, choose your tree and pick-up location, pick up your tree, and plant it yourself!
- Multiple species to choose from (see Browse The Tree Guide)
- Registration opens March 2 (wards containing Priority Areas for tree planting, which includes Carlington) and March 9 (city-wide)
