Ottawa Police Services has a “Safeguard Your Home” program (SGYH), whose objectives are to reduce repeat break-and-enters and increase support to victims of crime.

The inspection is like an audit of your home’s safety precautions. The SGYH inspection officer reviews your home’s windows, locks and pins, door hinges, frames and locks, exterior lighting, garage security and the house numbers displayed.

At the end of the audit, you will get a report outlining how to improve your home’s safety, as well as tips for crime prevention.

For more information, please see Safeguard Your Home (SGYH) Inspection – This page includes a check list and tips for making your home safer.

To book your safety audit, please contact Ottawa Police Services at and someone will get back to you soon. This email is monitored Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., excluding holidays.

The SGYH program is just one of many safety programs offered the Ottawa Police Services: check out their webpage:
