Public Consultation on Kirkwood Redesign
Thursday, December 2, 2021
7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Many residents have complained over the years about Kirkwood Avenue and the dangers it poses. In response, Riley has developed a three-point plan:

  • On October 13, 2021, Riley filed a Public Inquiry, directing City staff to quantify the number of large trucks using the street, and review possible alternate routes for these trucks to get to/from the Queensway.
  • On November 10, 2021, City Council approved his recommendation to reduce the speed limit from 50km/hr to 40km/hr, between Merivale Road and Carling Avenue.
  • Redesign of the street, using signage and painted lines in order to reduce the number of lanes from four to two. The newly designed road would have one travel lane in each direction, bicycle lanes and a middle turning lane.
