On Sunday, June 6, 2021, four members of the Muslim community in London, Ontario, were murdered while out on a evening walk. A grandmother, a mother, a father and a daughter have all been killed because of hate towards their religion. The lone survivor, a 9-year-old boy, has lost his immediate family.
Violence against the Muslim community is an issue that cannot be ignored. From 2015 to 2019, the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) tracked more than 300 incidents, including more than 30 acts of physical violence. All communities must do their part to make all peoples feel safe, comfortable, and welcomed in their neighbourhoods.
The Carlington Community Association extends condolences to the families of the attack and the entire Muslim community. We as an organization stand against this hate, and commit ourselves to not be bystanders to racism, and urge everyone within our community and beyond to do the same.
