Candidates standing for Election:
Brian Beard (is standing for President)
Brian is a new resident to Carlington, having moved here in December 2020. He is a teacher at Colonel By Secondary School where he teaches geography in both the Ontario and International Baccalaureate diploma programs. He is passionate about urban environments and liveable communities, which conveniently are major components of the curriculum. He also helps to further geographic education by being a National Film Board educator and an ArcGIS Ambassador and by being on the board of the Ontario Association of Geography and Environmental Educators (OAGEE). Brian is passionate about supporting 15-minute communities and strengthening active transportation networks. He and his wife (plus dog and cat) are looking forward to expecting their first-born any day and calling Carlington home for some time.
Heather has been a member of the vibrant Carlington community since 2007. Alongside her husband and two dogs, she is now watching her son as he grows up attending one of the local schools, and experiencing all the community has to offer. Heather has been volunteering on the Communications Committee of the CCA since February, and would like to take the next step which would be a more active role on the board of directors to continue their good work. In her day job, Heather works in partnership with various Canadian not-for-profit organizations and their boards as they navigate installing new leadership.
Alexandria has lived in Carlington for four years and is a lifelong Ottawa resident. Her interest in engaging in the CCA board stems from her environmental activism and she hopes that participating in board activities will allow her to promote environmental awareness and action within Carlington to create a healthier and more sustainable community for everyone. Alexandria works in the cybersecurity sector with a focus on strategy and marketing, and feels her strengths in strategic project execution will be an asset in her work with the CCA board.
David has been on the Board since 2016, serving as the Treasurer for the last four years. His term as Treasurer is now up, four years being the maximum term, but he would like to remain on the Board in an alternate capacity and guide the new Treasurer, whoever that may be, for a successful transition. The CCA has made great progress with financial reporting over the last number of years and he hopes to see that continue. He is looking forward to the opportunity to explore a new role within the CCA and continue to move the membership’s agenda to build a better, greener, safer Carlington.
Peter moved to Carlington in February of 2021 and has been in Ottawa for almost 15 years. A graduate of the McGill School of Information Studies, Peter manages library services in the public sector. He is passionate about fostering a sense of community and connection among Carlington residents. In his spare time, Peter is an avid yoga practitioner, amateur violinist and a novice audiophile. He lives with his wife and 1.5-year-old son.
