Last winter, due to the numerous freeze-thaw cycles, Ottawa’s sidewalks were in lamentable condition for pedestrians, in spite of the City of Ottawa’s efforts to clean them. Many people, including our City Councillor, Riley Brockington, voiced their frustration with the icy sidewalk conditions.

In response, the City has been working on an improved service strategy for the last few months, one important aspect being an increase in the City’s focus on 24/7 snow clearing on sidewalks this upcoming winter. New ice-breaking equipment has also been purchased to assist with clearing the ice off sidewalks after freeze-thaw cycles.
