Violence on Shillington Ave.

September 25th, 2016 3 comments

Like all residents, the CCA was extremely troubled by the news of another shooting outside the Suya Spot restaurant this morning - this time resulting in a homicide. There is a long and frustrating history of violence at this establishment and the community has been active before in trying to minimize risk to neighbours in the area. At this point, it is clear that the owners and landlord don't have either the capacity or willingness to make critical changes - and it is important for the community to speak out again.

Councillor Riley Brockington has invited residents to share their concerns with his office, and the CCA will follow up with more detailed information and options once we have conferred with key stakeholders.

In the meantime, don't hesitate to contact us directly and/or share your thoughts below.

Please Join Us! CCA General Meeting and other issues of interest…

September 20th, 2016 Comments off

After a busy summer of planning - with some time to ourselves as well - the CCA Board of Directors is excited to get moving on key issues and opportunities for 2016/17. There is a lot on the go in our neighbourhood and we are keen to see members and residents get involved and take leadership on a number of topics.

Our 'theme' for the coming is 'COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS' and we hope to see this take shape by facilitating the involvement of residents from all over our community in issues important to them, to their specific corners of Carlington, and to the community as a whole. We need the ideas, contributions, and perspective of a diverse group to have a positive impact and the CCA wants to make sure your contributions - and connections - resonate strongly.

To get things started, we have a busy week of meetings. Please join us on Wednesday evening (Sept 21) for our first General Meeting of the new Association year. The agenda is below and this will be an opportunity to get an update on a number of issues facing the community, to hear from our Councillor Riley Brockington, and to find out how you can be more involved in specific issues important or appealing to you.

On Thursday Sept 22, the CCA will host a special meeting to present the latest information and updates on the OMBA Bike Park proposal for Carlington Hill. This project was approved by CCA members at our AGM in May (with a 70% vote in favour) and was just debated by the City of Ottawa Community and Protective Services Committee, where it was approved through a 9-1 vote by Councillors. This meeting will provide some further info on next steps and will launch recruitment efforts to create a working group to manage the coordination, implementation and oversight of the project. This will be the first of many meetings, so if you are interested but cannot attend, let us know at

Finally, we also encourage residents to attend the Open House presenting the results of the Ottawa Hospital Site Review. Details below.

Thanks and see you all soon!
