Major Planting Event at W.E. Gowling School

June 6th, 2017 Comments off

The Greening Committee (of the W.E. Gowling Parent Council) would like to extend you all an invitation to help in a monumental transformation of our school grounds by participating our Planting Event!

June 10th from 9:30am-1:30pm we will be rallying volunteers from the community (including a number from our sponsor Telus) to help with this exciting undertaking. The day will consist of planting the raspberry, blueberry, haskap and service berry bushes as well as creating a mulch path through the Nature Study Area. We will also give some love to the trees that were planted last year by mulching around the bottom and installing watering bags. There will be a thank you BBQ and refreshments for all the volunteers!

The School Council and specifically the Greening Committee have been working hard for the past year and a half on bringing our vision for the transformation of the W.E. Gowling school grounds to light. The Committee has recently had exciting news... we have been awarded a grant through Tree Canada with partnership from Telus to plant edible tress on the school grounds. These edible trees will be planted in the Nature Study Area (which you may have noticed has already been marked off as a "NO MOW" area).

Our goal for the Nature Study area (and future Outdoor Classroom) is not only to beautify Gowling but to also provide your children with some wonderfully educational areas that can enrich their curriculum and help the students learn in as many different ways as possible. We will measure our success by how this space can/will be used. For this reason we are hoping you will engage with us to create a space you will be excited to have in your neighborhood to enhance the everyday experience of the school children and to benefit the community outside of regular school hours.

We sincerely hope that you will come out to support the school and the community in creating a more beautiful W.E. Gowling!

For more information and to RSVP (so we will plan enough food and refreshments), please email Chrissy and Jason
