Carlington Community Grant Recipient

September 26th, 2018 Comments off

The Carlington Community Association is pleased to announce that from the amazing pool of applications, the proposal for an Ultimate Frisbee program was selected as the recipient of the inaugural Carlington Community Grant. This program truly stood out as it is designed to serve two geographic areas of the Carlington community while promoting physical fitness, communication, problem-solving, and respect for the youth of our neighbourhood. Youth aged 10-17 will be invited to learn the sport of Ultimate Frisbee at both the Alexander and Bellevue Community Centres next year, where they will also develop skills in self-refereeing, personal responsibility, and, playing for the fun of the game (the Spirit Of The Game). This in turn builds the ability to effectively listen to and respect the views of others which will help in conflict resolution, cooperation, collaboration, and team building. While this program is based in sport, it also creates opportunities for mentorship and leadership which may in turn foster academic achievement, personal, familial, and societal success. We look forward to seeing this program take shape!
