As part of the annual Carlington Yard & Plant Sale taking place this Saturday, the CCA is leading an exciting initiative to beautify our neighbourhood by planting donated tulips across our community.
We’re recruiting interested volunteers to take part and your first chance to get involved takes place this Saturday. See full details below.
Look forward to seeing you around the neigbhourhood this Saturday!
Carlington is divided into two federal/provincial electoral ridings along Merivale Road. Residents who live west of Merviale Road reside in the riding of Ottawa West-Nepean, while those with homes on the east side of Merivale make up part of Ottawa Centre.
NOTE: The CCA posts community updates from all of our elected officials as we receive them.
Hon. John Baird, M.P Community Update May 31, 2012
The first ever Carlington Family Fun Day exceeded all expectations.
32 degrees Celsius. Seven partnering community organizations. Dozens of volunteers. More than 500 neighbours from across Carlington taking part in four hours of great games and activities. It was the kind of day unseen in Carlington in a long time and a fantastic community building event.
We’ve got lots of shots of the day, a few of which we preview below. We’ll post even more photos in this space in the days ahead, so check back!
Excitingly, CBC News Ottawa sent out a crew to document the day. Check out the clip around the 25 minute mark here.
We are getting really excited. Next Monday we’ve invited all of Carlington to join us for a free community BBQ, family games, crafts and much more.
The best part: you’re invited!
In addition to all the CCA-provided BBQ, fun and games, we’ve also invited a ton of great community organizations to take part in the day’s activities. Groups like Neighbourhood Watch, Crimestoppers, Ottawa Good Food Box, Yasir Naqvi M.P.P., the Rogers TV Tim Hortons Community Cruiser and the Ottawa Police Service will all be on hand. We’ll even have a performance from the Caldwell Glee Club at noon!
Participating families will be handed a ‘Carlington Family Fun Day Passport’ upon arrival that they can fill out by dropping by the various community booths set up throughout the day. Completed passports will be entered in a draw for a great prize!
Don’t miss out!
Date: Victoria Day Monday (May 21)
Where: Alexander Park, 960 Silver Street
On Saturday June 2, the CCA will take part in the annual Carlington Yard & Plant Sale. Full details are available here. Please feel free to download, print and share our poster with friends and family.
You can take part by putting out your own table of seedlings, plant cuttings and yard giveaways. One of the coolest parts of the Carlington Yard & Plant Sale is cruising the neighbourhood for great finds and talking to your neighbours. Take part!
Look forward to seeing you out there!
On Saturday, May 12th, seven CCA members contributed to the City of Ottawa’s “Cleaning the Capital” campaign by picking up litter and yard waste in Alexander Park. Volunteers enjoyed beautiful spring weather and helped to get the park ready for the May 21st Carlington Family Fun Day event by collecting five bags of garbage and 14 bags of yard waste.
Members of the community also recently contributed to making Ottawa a little greener by cleaning the eastern edge of Carlington Park, in particular the stairs off Edgecliffe Avenue, the woods around the Esther By Child Care Centre and the end of Morriset Avenue.
The CCA thanks Nikki Bagnell, Sarah Dalle, David Grant, Marc Snelling, Bernard Sullivan, Alicia Taylor and Wendy Vasbinder for participating in this year’s clean-up. Since the “Cleaning the Capital” campaign is an annual event, please watch for notices on how to join your neighbours for the 2013 edition and contact the CCA if you would like to nominate a clean-up location for next spring.
Need some forget me nots? Hostas? Want to meet other people in the neighbourhood? Then look no further than Carlington’s annual Yard & Plant Sale, which happens every year on the first Saturday in June… The 2012 edition takes place Saturday June 2nd at Harrold Place Park.
Among the hard core plant people’s offerings, you’ll also find toys, clothes, and spring cleaning miscellany at a few houses along the way. Swing by Harrold Place Park where the CCA will have our table, which will include membership signup & baked goods along with plants. The Atlantic Voices choir is part of the event at Harrold Place, too, & offer a wide variety of goods.
To participate, feel free to hang out a shingle on your own front lawn or bring a folding table & your items for sale to the green space inside Harrold Place on June 2nd. The more, the merrier! Hope to see you there!
